some great news and a very hectic two days

Well it's been a very hectic two days, for my non Victorian, non-Australian readers the temperature has barely got below 35 Degrees (C) in the past two days and only this afternoon has it dipped below thirty. These two days of hot weather have been accompanied by power blackouts, caused by a bushfire in the north east of the state taking out a major transmission line between Victorian and New South Wales. Luckily we were only partially affected by this brownout and lost power for about an hour.

In other news, my Auntie gave birth to a baby girl yesterday, the babies name is Elizabeth Rainsford. I was planning to visit them on Friday however I have been called into work so I will probably have to go next week or on the weekend.

I'm also still waiting for a phone call from Optus, whom were meant to ring me back within 24 hours, however as long as the problem gets fixed I'm not too fussed about the phone call.

optus finally see the light

For those of you that are Optus customers, you would know and agree with me that their Optus Zoo sucks. Well today I found out something that has almost convinced me to stay with Optus as a mobile phone carrier, it's called myZoo. It's still in the beta stage, but I was made aware of it by an Optus technician whom I was on the phone to for about an hour today trying to fix yet another Optus Zoo related problem.

It looks pretty good, however the mobile account parts (the current Optus Zoo) are not available yet (the links redirect you to the old Optus Zoo). It is a lot like the Ninemsn homepage in terms of the customizable content etc, however Optus have added there own little flair to it. an early start

Today I went down to Western Port bay fishing, which was rather good (and early). I ended up catching about 6 fish which I was pleased with. In other news thank god its Sunday, this week has been extremely hectic with a combination of work, family and friends, so now hopefully I can at least have most of this week off to do nothing. Also if anyone else tells me how great the new iPhone is going to be and that it is revolutionary I will end up hitting them.

a big announcement over at apple

Well most of you would have seen that Apple have announced their new "iPhone". I'm personally not a fan of apple's non computer products (ie. iPod). I will of course not be buying an iPhone but will end up buying the cheaper, superior product that will no doubt be made by the likes of Motorola, Nokia, Samsung etc. to counter Apples new shiny gadget. The thing I like about Apple is there products have a huge appeal and practically walk out the store, this forces other companies to come up with new products (or rip off apples) and sell them at a lower price (this is where I come in), I then buy this cheaper, often superior product and then gloat to the iPod wielding, iPhone talking yuppies that I have a better music player, and a better phone and all for a cheaper price.

Anyway thats my little bitch for the day, also this bloody smoke is annoying, however today it wasn't so bad because it cleared up. Tomorrow I'm going down to Sandringham to have lunch with some people and will no doubt head down to the beach as it will be a scorcher.

Well I have now been a MySpace person for a full day now, and I must admit it isn't as bad as I thought it was. Obviously my MySpace was created to boost traffic to this blog, and it as certainly done that. Here are some facts and figures,

Saturday 6th January saw more visitors than ever before, and beat the previous amount by 173%
More people visited the blog on Saturday 6th January than during the entire month of December.
Visitors come from 17 Different countries, with 82% coming from Australia, 75% of those from Victoria.
27% of all my visitors use Telstra Bigpond as their ISP, followed by Netspace then Optus.
30% of all my Visitors use Firefox, with IE making up 55%, 10% use Safari
75.44% of all my visitors use United States English, with 19.33% using Australian English, 1.75% use Portugese (Brazil) & 1.75 use French with the rest using UK English.

Anyway my point is (to Luke) that MySpace works and is certainly increasing traffic to this little blog. Anyway today I walked up to Chadstone and ended up buying some stuff at Borders. As usual I also paid a visit to Krispy Kreme.

Well I have finally created a MySpace. For those of you that know me best I have vehemently fought against this whole MySpace thing. The reason I have done it is because I need more visitors on this blog, because unfortunately i'm sick of the twenty or so of you, and the poor little guy from spain on dialup and windows 98 (yes I can tell what type of internet connection you have, where you are and what OS you have) being the only ones that look at this site.

In other great news, well I have none, its been a pretty boring weekend so far. I was going to go out tonight (by which I mean Saturday) but unfortunately on Friday I got really badly sunburnt while swimming and can now barely move (I can still type though).

a trip to the mornington peninsula

Well today we headed down to the Mornington Peninsula (Rosebud to be precise) to visit my grandmother. We had lunch at the Rosebud Hotel and then went to the beach where we swam for about two hours. While I was down there I went into EB Games and bought Medieval II Total War (the sequel to Medieval Total War) and Microsoft Flight Simulator X Deluxe Edition (I'm a sucker for those flight sim games). Meanwhile my day only cost me about $175, which I was pretty happy with. The rest of my week is rather uneventful, except I'll have to walk up to Chadstone to go to Borders to spend my gift vouchers, but that's no huge effort.

what a week

Well Christmas is over for another year. I was fairly pleased with what I got. Anyway to recap my week, well I went to the Boxing Day Test (Cause I'm an MCC member), and also went to day 2. Then Yesterday spent most of the day doing nothing and then today did nothing again except have a swim. Also Yesterday the guys from Melbourne Water came out to fix the sewerage pipe on our road, cause apparently tree roots had grown into it so that was a rather disgusting visit. In my week ahead I will be going fishing on Port Phillip Bay, going down to the Mornington Peninsula to visit my Grandmother, and possibly up to our house at Gembrook to ride motorbikes etc.

Well I just got home from Jenny and Tony's annual Christmas party (they're family friends), I didn't drink much however my parents did so we caught a taxi home. It was a good night with the usual Christmas songs, food and presents. Well it's Christmas Eve now, tomorrow is Christmas and Luke I have no idea what you can buy your dad for Christmas but the fact that you asked me an hour ago is a worry.

Well today I finished my Christmas shopping, I also ran into Mr. Scott at the bank. In other news it's just a little over two days until Christmas which will prove to be its usual tiring self, we are having lunch at my nanna's (my mum's mother) with my uncle & auntie etc. Also today I booked my flight up to Sydney in June, I'm flying up there on the 25th June on QF 430 and flying back on the 2nd July on QF 419. Anyway the flights cost me 16,000 frequent flyer points each way (business class) so now I've only got 100,000 points left, the reason I'm going up there is because my brother will be moving up there in February, and I've never actually got to look around Sydney as I've only been there for a couple days at a time, so hopefully being there a week I will get to have a look around plus because I will be 18 I can do some pub crawls.

Well Time magazine has announced the winner of its person of the year, and it is you. Apparently no one person stood out this year so they decided that everyone deserved to be person of the year.

In other news I went up to Chadstone to buy some Borders vouchers, and tickets to the Australian Open, I then headed in to South Yarra to buy Gold Pass tickets to the movies, and being on Chapel Street I decided to do some shopping at JB Hi-Fi and ended up walking out with the Indiana Jones box set which was only $39.98 (was $88.95) so I felt like I got a bargain.

Today I went and saw the new James Bond film, Casino Royale up at Hoyts. I thought it was pretty good (I'm a sucker for James Bond films) and was much better than some of the previous James Bond films (the modern ones, not the old ones which I think are good). In other news I've bought a new wireless modem which is much better than our old one (the new one is made by CISCO). Well it's now only a week until Christmas, and people are running around like mad trying to finish their Christmas shopping which is annoying for people like me whom are picking things up like magazines from Borders.

Tomorrow I will be running around Chadstone, and the City, picking up things like tennis tickets, and gift vouchers (I seem to be doing all my families Christmas shopping for them). Hope your all having a great break, study hard and don't do drugs.

Well today has been a very smoke filled and busy day. Anyway I spent most of my day looking for a Pocket PC for Dad (it's his birthday/christmas present), and as it turns out Myer are the cheapest place (I couldn't believe it either). I also managed to convince Mum to spend money upgrading our home wireless network as ours seems to dislike if it if you are more than a foot away. Also I had an argument with Connex today as my yearly metcard failed and they are unwilling to give me a new one, (well they're willing but it's going to cost me $14), anyway after a long and drawn out argument I now have a new metcard. I also must mention that I'm insanely jealous of Luke and his adventures with Clarabel, also my name is in the paper (both The Age and Herald Sun) because of my score in VET IT.

Well today was the big day, with VCE students receiving their results. I must say I was very suprised with my VET IT mark, but a little disappointed with my International Studies mark (it wasn't a suprise however). Here are my results;

my smoke filled weekend

I'm amazed that bushfires that are hundreds of kilometres away manage to fill my backyard with smoke. However it wasn't all that bad, It meant that I spent the last two days indoors watching movies. I ended up watching United 93, which I was rather disappointed in (The Seconds From Disaster - Flight 93 documentary was much better), and an Australian film 'Kenny', I must admit it was one of the best Australian films I've ever seen (it however can't quite compete with 'The Castle'). I then spent today watching the 'Make Poverty History' concert DVD which I was rather impressed with considering it came free in a newspaper. After this I spent the rest of the day watching CNN newsclips, and watching music videos on Bigpond Music.

end of the 2006 school year

Well today was my final day of school for this year. Today was fairly relaxed, with only one of my classes actually running (Math Lecture). We had an end of year assembly, which was rather good. The school rock band was pretty good, singing 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' by The Verve. Also I got my blazer back from the uniform shop, it now looks pretty good, with my Prefect, Drama and Editorial colours/honours now on it.

Well the Speech Nights are over, with Newlands capping off a great year last night. In typical speech night fashion they were rather boring, however I managed to get some pretty good shots. Today we had a Newlands end of term assembly, which was rather boring, I spent most of the time talking to Mr. Freeman. The highlight was of course Mr. Bacon making an idiot of himself in the staff rock band.

Also the school magazine will be distributed at the beginning of next year, with volume 2 coming roughly at the start of term 2.

Finally, Alastair Bryant now has a web presence with his blog Paradoxical Oxymoron (seriously I think they were all on drugs when they thought up their blog names)

Well its now December and everyone is gearing up for Christmas. Of course this is the most expensive time of year and also the busiest. It is also Summer now, however you wouldn't have guessed it, considering it snowed a couple of weeks ago and its now only 16 degrees in Melbourne (according to Forecastfox). In other news I'll be at all the speech nights unfortunately, however I'll be getting paid, well now it's back to watching the Ashes, Season's Greetings.

Bloody Mr. Lawson, he yet again called me Andrew, and this time he called me Andrew in front of Ms. Gill, so now she's calling me Andrew, however I don't know whether he's doing it deliberately, or he just mixes up my name. That said, it looks like I'll be at all three speech nights taking photos. However I plan on not telling Edrington about me being there, and hence get out of it.

Also I have a Sociology SAC tomorrow, which I'm not prepared for, however I think it will be fairly easy and straight forward. Finally Pearce Blue wanted me to mention him on my blog, so hey Pearce.

shopping chaos

Heres an update as to how my weekend has been:

On Saturday I headed down to school to take photos of Girls Touch and Softball, so after spending two hours at school I headed home, and then decided to walk up to Chadstone to pick up the bi-monthly Foreign Policy magazine. I of course forgot the fact that it is a little over a month before Christmas, so I was expecting to be in and out in 10 minutes, well of course I had the usual idiots in the queue whom were asking the advantages of a Gift Card over Cash (answer; none, give them cash). So after half an hour in line I finally got served and was bombarded with the usual questions, would you like to join our email membership full of exciting offers? (answer: already a member), could I please have your postcode (answer: foreign visitor don't have one - I find this answer more amusing than the usual 3163) and the final question, would you like a bag? (answer: yes, but only if its a made of a class 4 recyclable material).

Also if you aren't a Victorian resident (46.7% of my blog readers are interstate or overseas) Steve Bracks won the election, now hopefully he can do what he has promised to do, or will he conveniently forget what he promised like last time.

Well today was Leadership Induction and I'm now officially a Prefect. The overall ceremony was pretty good, without too many mistakes, and the afternoon tea afterwards was really good. Apart from that nothing really exciting happened today.

battle of the buses

This saga seems like its coming to an end. We (4 leaders and myself) spoke to Mr. Scott this afternoon, and unfortunately it doesn't look like Haileybury will budge. Pretty much Haileybury are stuck with twelve or so Metlink funded bus routes that can't be changed without losing the Metlink funding for that route. So in order to meet demand Haileybury have had to introduce 'Haileybury' funded buses, and of course these buses cost money, a lot of money.

Unfortunately Haileybury is pretty much being held over a barrel and theres not much they can do, except cover the cost of the new buses themselves, which they do, and of course to do this, ticket prices must rise. Mr. Scott is going to raise some of our concerns with Mr. Dwyer, mainly about the flexibility of the system and some issues such as late buses etc.

Also Luke Hawley got his Haileybury vest embroidered with 'Tech Crew' on the back, it looks very cool and I must say I'm very jealous.

google analytics

Many people ask me how I know if they've been on my blog or not, the answer is simple, Google. They offer a tool called google analytics that allows me to see roughly what geographical area my visitors come from (this blog is truly global, I have visitors from Spain, France, UK, USA, Phillipines, South Africa, Brazil, Singapore, New Zealand, Japan, China, Thailand, Israel, Germany, Netherlands, Mexico, Poland & Russia). It can also tell me how the visitors got to my site ie. did they type the address in, or did they do a Google search (a surprising amount of people type in Matthew Kennedy + Haileybury in Google) and there are some other pretty cool tools as well such as visitor numbers, pageviews, searches.

Also my weekend has been very boring, just catching up on heaps of school work. But I did have a swim today as it was pretty hot, and I also played some Airline Tycoon (yes I know its like ten years old but its really addictive).

a pointless battle

It looks like we will still have to pay the $600 for the buses next year. I met with Mr. Dwyer and he said that Haileybury were unable to be flexible due to the cost of the buses, anyway I will speak to Mr. Scott about it on Monday, however unfortunately it looks unlikely that things will change.

On a slightly more joyous note, I managed to get out of Saturday sport this week (Lawson wanted me to take photos of course) however I will have to do it next week.

Also the Dance gala night was pretty good, and I managed to get some good photos out of it, it was also very crowded so they wont be having it reverse stage next year.

My exams are finally finished, all I have to do now is wait until December to get my results. I got a letter in the mail today about Leadership Induction, it will be held at 12:20pm next Thursday (23rd November) in the Aikman Hall.

I also received an email from Mr. Dwyer after I complained to him about the bus arrangements for next year, he said that Haileybury will sell a annual pass separately from a Metcard, so for those of you that catch the bus irregularly it will now be slightly cheaper (you will buy a Haileybury annual pass, then Metcards when you need them). I'm still not happy with the result and I will bring it up with him again tomorrow or Friday, I'm fighting for you guys (& girls now)!!!.

Also happy birthday to James Panther, he's now 12, I mean 22.

In case you didn't know, Luke Hawley has been chosen as Drama captain. So a big congratulations for Luke is in order. I also finally found the Haileybury Girls logo, it turns out the registrars office has it, and on a slightly off topic note, I sent an email to Mr. Dwyer before about the bus arrangements for next year, I'm really pissed off about having to pay $600 when I usually only pay $380, anyway I hope he sorts it out (even if he doesn't it was still good to vent).

Well today has been the most exciting day of my week so far, firstly I had my VET IT 3 & 4 exam, which I think I did pretty good in. Later on in the hall James dropped a light from the roof of the hall, luckily it landed on the chair so it only caused some damage to the casing, anyway James said he accidentally 'kicked' it while lowering two other lights. Also a quick note, Mr. Bell has no idea about this and we are planning to hide this from him so it would be nice if you didn't mention this to him.

Well it turns out Pat has had a more exciting and painful weekend than me, he has got a dislocated knee and tonsillitis. Apparently a trailer fell on him when he was unloading it and was stuck under it for 20 minutes, he was then rushed to emergency where they performed not so life saving treatment.

(For those of you that have no medical knowledge, the Tonsillitis was not caused by the falling trailer).

exam preparation

I've spent most of today preparing for VET IT 3 & 4 exam. I've done three practice exams, plus some multi-choice and some reading so I'm fairly confident. Anyway my exam is tomorrow at 9am, and then my International Studies exam is on Wednesday, that one I'm a little more worried about. My aim this year is to get over 35 in both my subjects, so hopefully I can do that without to much of a problem.

Telstra launched its ADSL 2 service today without much publicity, for those of you on ADSL 1 plans (256kb-1500kb) with Telstra you will be able to either upgrade your plan for the same price each month as your current plans, or change you plan to the cheaper version of your current plan hence saving you money. For those of you that aren't with Telstra, you will have to wait to reap the benefits of this shakeup.

the race that stops a nation

Every year I bet on the Melbourne cup, and the 9 other races that are held at Flemington on cup day, and every year I lose money however this year I broke even (I actually came out $1 in front). As a VRC member I must say that Melbourne Cup day is the worst day of racing in the spring carnival, and the only good group 1 race, the cup itself is full of longshots that come out of nowhere to place. At least the winner this year (as well as the last 3 years) was deserving, with the Group 1 Japanese horse "Delta Blues" finishing in first place. Unfortunately there are only two good days at Flemington left (Oaks and Stakes) and then its a whole year until it happens all over again, however this year because Flemington is being renovated (again) there will be no race meetings held literally until next spring carnival, so I'll be relying on my MRC (Melbourne Racing Club) which gets me into Caulfield.

School today was its usual busy yet mundane self. The highlight was at about 3:30, when the librarian approached Al Wyatt and myself and asked us whether you had recently purchased two Pentax cameras. We said no we hadn't, however Newlands did buy a new Pentax camera not long ago. We asked why he was asking and he said that he just got off the phone from JB Hi-Fi in Chadstone and they were wondering whether Haileybury were planning on paying for the cameras we bought. Anyway we don't know for sure whether it was Newlands, as it could quite possibly be one of the other campuses, however Castlefield bought a camera in January and Edrington bought one last year, so anyway it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Also I'm up to 8 coffees, so I only need to buy one more and I get one free, YAY!!!. I can see myself spending all my money on Cappucino's. Also a quick message to Luke, I got absolutely nothing done after you left!!!

a facelift

I decided that my blog needed a small face lift, so I have changed the colour of the heading to a nice blue, resized and changed the font. Overall I think it looks better than what It used to. On another note, school was pretty good today, however Luke today spent about an hour, applying for, canceling and getting information on an ABN. Eventually after a visit to the finance department at Haileybury he decided that an ABN wasn't for him and simply filled out the declaration form he'd been given in the first place. Anyway now I don't think a single staff member/department is unaware of Luke and his ABN troubles.

On another note Pat has received 150 free sms from 3, so I thought I should congratulate him on this wonderful effort.

Last Night's Spring Sports Presentation Night went off without too many hitches, anyway none of them were our/my fault, although Luke came awfully close to not turning on a microphone when Stefan went to speak. Mr. Twist looked really pissed off after some students got a little too personal with the lady presenting the awards.

Today I woke up late (as usual on Saturdays) and helped the Foxtel guy fix our Foxtel cause someone had to change the menu settings while he played around with the cable, I then went out for lunch down at Zanubas (Toorak Place), they took ages and substituted Tomato, for Cheese on my Toasted BLT which was rather strange. After that we went home and I then walked up to Chadstone and bought Citizen Kane (I didn't buy it on the book list cause it was a ripoff, I got my copy for $22.95), and I also bought a couple of CD's from JB Hi-Fi.

On the Editorial front everything is looking good, however Mr. Lawson keeps calling me Andrew (Ms. Fanhauser calls me Andrew as well so obviously I look like an Andrew that went to Haileybury), 0ur new camera has arrived, its a Canon EOS 400D which is pretty good, so hopefully I get to use that over the next few weeks.

Also if you didn't notice I have run out of ideas for titles for my posts, any suggestions would be welcome.

13th and last year of school begins

Today we officially became year 12's, with many people receiving senior ties. On Friday morning I was called by Mrs. Furusho who told me that I had been selected as a prefect this year which was quite a shock, so today I had my first prefect meeting.

This year I have some pretty good teachers, as well as some pretty bad teachers, however the subjects are good. Tomorrow we have a whole school assembly which I beleive is where the Year 12's officially become the Senior Class of 2007, and of course we heard the new school song today and it was no where near as good as the old one (Vivat Haileyburia). Also we came 5th (I think) in athletics!!

The Class of 2006 has officially graduated, with their ceremony going off last night without a hitch. I of course attended to take photos and I managed to get some pretty good shots of the graduates as they accepted their certificate from the Hon. Justice Ross Sundberg. Overall it was a pretty good ceremony, and I think a special mention goes to Mrs. Brown whom accepted Simon's honourary graduate certificate (Simon passed away earlier this year).

Yesterday being the year twelves last day was rather emotional (for the year 12 at least) with there being a last assembly, and a last chapel. The assembly was really good considering we (luke) spent a fair time getting ready, however we spent close to half an hour down at Newlands trying to get their banner (Jimmy sent us down to Newlands to get it, however the hall down there was locked so we asked Mrs. Robinson to open it for us, she said that she may not have the keys and would have to ask Mr. Davey, after saying this Alastair and James burst out laughing so she got really suspicous and said she would have to ring Senior School)

Anyway congratulations to the class of 2006, and good luck for the future.

im finally competent

Finally I'm bloody competent in VET IT 3 & 4, which means that I can do my Final Exam. Anyway it wasn't actually that hard and the only reason that it took me so long is that I was lazy and kept mucking around in class.

Also Today many people (Luke, James, & Alistair) have been asking me why I quit my job so here's a quick run through,
-They wanted to pay me less
-I would be doing more work
-The hours weren't as flexible
-They were getting me to help some rather objectionable websites get more visitors
-The company will be closing down its Australian operations over the next 3 years (starting with Brisbane, then moving down to Melbourne before finally closing Sydney)

Also on Thursday I will be at Graduation to take photos, which will be fun. I will also be at Athletics on Saturday and I urge you all to come, I think Haileybury will be chartering a bus (or two) so that you can go support the team, if not Olympic Park is extremely easy to get to as it's on the Pakenham, Cranbourne, Frankston, Sandringham, Alamein, Glen Waverley, Belgrave and Lilydale train lines (Richmond Station is the closest station to Olympic Park, simply walk down Swan St) Anyway I hope to see you there.

I've finished all of my IT work finally, so now I just have to get it assessed, and yesterday I quit my job, I had this planned for a number of weeks and it was certainly no suprise to my boss. So I am now in the hunt for a new job, however I have resigned to the fact that I will not be able to get a job that was as flexible or paid as much as my old one. Anyway just thought I'd let everyone (by which I mean Luke) know.

Well three exciting things have happened this week, one, Telstra launched its 'NextG' network which is pretty much 3G that runs on a lower frequency than 2100Mhz that Optus, 3 and Vodafone use. Telstra also launched the "hiptop" service here in Australia. For those of you whom have no experience with these little devices they are similar to blackberry's, PDA's etc however they are much simpler to use and focus more on entertainment, web surfing, chat, so they are pretty much fun blackberry's, anyway some people at work use them to keep in touch with friends, colleagues etc around the world. Now the amazing thing about this service is that Telstra are actually extremely well priced, its $30 for unlimited data/usage in a month, anyway I won't be getting one simply because I hate Telstra. On a similar topic, I'm now with Optus again as Vodafone amazingly managed to piss me off more than what Optus used to. As much as I didn't want to go back to Optus, there were simply no other choices that suited me, anyway I have kept my Vodafone number which was a pain in the ass to port across (ask Luke, I seemed to have real issues with the recording asking me my phone number), well everything is done now and I'm now a 'happy' customer with Optus.

I was told today that I will be receiving colours or honours for Editorial, this means that I will now have two colours on my blazer. Also in the world of Editorial, unlike previous years Volume 1 of the magazine will include all events up to Senior School speech night, with Volume 2 including the speech nights for the junior campuses as well as all the girls things that will be happening after October 23rd. Just thought I'd share.

Well school has started again, and with this new beginning came an end, I will never have a Unit 1 & 2 class ever again, so from now on School actually matters. Today was fairly uneventful, with nothing important going on, of course I received all my exams back and I was fairly suprised about how well I did, my results were;

Literature 1 & 2 : 74%
Further Maths 1 & 2 : 81.3%
Psychology 1 & 2 : 65%
Physics 1 & 2 : 38%
VET IT 3 & 4 : 71%
International Studies 3 & 4 : 54%

The only subject I was disappointed in was International Studies, however everyone did poorly in this exam as they marked it extremely harshly, of course I gave up on physics in about June and I was actually suprised by my mark as it was better than expected.

Sorry about the lack of posts recently but I have simply been too busy! Here's what has been happening during the last couple of weeks,

I have of course been working which has been fun, however going home on the train every night has been extremely painful as the trains are packed with both business people, and noisy kids whom had been to the Royal Melbourne Show, the latter being extremely annoying as it seems every showbag contains something that is big, noisy and painful. Also it looks like we (work) are going to be bought out by a large American company (can't tell you who) so that will prove to be interesting.

This last week however I only worked two days and had the rest off, in which I went shopping at Chadstone to get some new shoes, clothes etc and today I spent an hour at the ANZ bank in Chadstone sorting out my bank account as they keep charging me these ATM card replacement fees however amazingly I have never requested or received a new ATM card, so anyway they wiped those charges as they believed me when I said that I had no need for 7 new ATM cards that I had supposedly ordered.

In the computer world I have gotten into "The Movies" game, and have spent many hours attempting to make a 5 star movie (3 is the highest I've gotten), I also borrowed the game Hearts of Iron II from work (it is a WWII strategic game), the graphics aren't great (its like a board game type layout) however the actual strategy is extremely in depth and challenging. Well I have nothing interesting to say, except go the Swans in the AFL Grand Final (I have adopted them because they were once Sth. Melbourne) and go the Storm in the other, crappier grand final.

Well that's it for Physics for the rest of my life, never again will I have to listen to another 'Newtons Laws of Motion' lectures, never again will I have to work out net forces, energy loss etc. On a slightly less joyous note it is also the end of Psychology for me as well, and while I didn't dislike the subject I decided not to do it next year simply because it was my least favourite of the 5 subjects I was deciding on. So now that my Unit 1 & 2 exams are over, I can concentrate on my 3 & 4 subjects

Of course many of you will be aware that today was also Nicolaai Morris' last day at Haileybury as he is going to Singapore to attend the Australian International School over there. So he brought his video camera to school and did some filming, and said some goodbyes to staff (he had a particularly long talk with Mr. Bell)

So what does this mean for me, well I have no idea as information on the smartcard is limited, however one concern I have is how it will affect my student pass (I currently receive unlimited travel in Melbourne for $400 a year)

I have long been plagued by the incompetence of the people over at Optus, so I have taken my business elsewhere - Vodafone. So I'm now on a $79 Super-Cap which suits me perfectly however due to my move to Vodafone I have a new mobile number (I could have kept my old number but that would have meant dealing with Optus). The only complaint I have about Vodafone is that their reception is not as good as Optus however I only noticed this when I was in the city loop in which Optus receives minimal reception (Vodafone gets none - however Optus generally got none as well). One thing I did notice while I was on the hunt for a new mobile plan was that apart from Optus and Vodafone there really is no competition in the GSM market. (who in the world would voluntarily sign up with Telstra?).

Yesterday I went to Olympic Park at 9:00am, and took photos of Athletics for about two hours, I then went into the City to get my mobile plan (I was amazed, I was only in the Vodafone store for about 5 minutes, compared to the usual hour it takes over at Optus), I then caught a tram (route 112 if your really interested) to MSAC and spent the rest of my afternoon taking photos of Volleyball and at about 3:00 pm I got sick of taking photos and decided to go home.

Anyway that is my news for the weekend, anyway I should be off studying for exams but its only English and I really don't care enough.

Exams begin next week which I'm completely unprepared for however I'm not that worried as they are only Unit 2 subjects and Unit 3 & 4 Trial exams. I would have studied more if I simply did not have so much to do because as many of you know Haileybury has shortened the year by about six weeks, and in typical Haileybury style none of my teachers have planned for this from the beginning of the year and are now trying to cram six weeks of course work into one week which means that I've been doing outcomes, SAC's, test, competency assesments, assignments, summaries and oral presentations pretty much every class of every day.

In other news I received my Drama colours on Tuesday due to my Tattoo contributions as well as for doing some things on Haileybury Online, Photos etc. On Saturday I'll be at Olympic Park to take more photos of Athletics, I will then be heading down to MSAC to get some shots of Volleyball, which I stupidly promised Mr. Schneiders that I would do, anyway I hope you all enjoy your weekend.

The end of Term is fast approaching, with only one more week before exams. Unfortunately I have an exam on every day, with some days having two exams. This morning I had to get up early to go to school and take photos of Middle School Touch, which has to be the stupidest sport (right up there with Triathlon) that Haileybury 'offers'. After I finished I went and had lunch in Caulfield, before heading home.

This coming week should prove to be exciting, with an Aerobics Championship Assembly on Tuesday, followed by morning tea in the Barney Allen center for those involved in the Tattoo (for six nights), and Mr. Bell told me on Thursday that I would be receiving Drama colours this week for my Tattoo services as well. Also on Tuesday I have to go to some Water Polo event during lunch and take photos.

On a completely different note, I got a letter from the MCC (Those guys love sending me pointless mail) telling me that I can go to the Grand Final because Im both a member of the MCC and VRC which have reciprocal rights with each other, and I can bring one 'guest', so thats bound to make my school holidays exciting, now I just hope that a Victorian team gets into the Grand Final.

Today I managed to grab the DVD's of the closing nights for each campus for the Tattoo, I of course did not realise just how bad the Tattoo was, especially on DVD. I at least thought Castlefield's show was alright, however the DVD proves me wrong.

poaching scandal

You should all be aware by now of the 'scandal' surrounding Haileybury and its commencment scholarships for Haileybury Girls, of course 'The Age' has been covering this scandal very closely and Haileybury has twice found itself on the front page. Of course Pargetter has hit back and released a scathing statement that is on both the website and in the newsletter. Anyway I was reading the 'Insight' section of the Saturday Age and saw this from cartoonist 'Ron Tandberg' anyway I found it rather amusing and thought that I should post it.

On a different note, Saturday Athletics was its usual mundane self, however I managed to score some really good pictures so hopefully I will only have to attend the APS Championship, rather than all the meets. Well I'm back to school tomorrow after my three day break, which should prove to be exciting as something major always happens when I'm gone (Editorial related), however Mr. Twist and Mr. Davey didn't mention anything on Saturday so I know it wont involve them.

Another week is over, and I recently learnt that its only three weeks until the holidays which will be good, anyway sport tomorrow is at Murrumbeena (Duncan Mackinnon Reserve) which is rather convenient so I hope to get some good shots of athletics so that I don't have to go back. I got my camera back from Newlands after they intelligently gave their only camera to the Ski Academy, anyway back to playing Civ 4.

Well my weekend has been rather eventful. After the formal on Friday night I got home to find my computer not switching on. I pulled it apart and concluded that the power supply was to blame, so after pulling the power supply apart I discovered a blown fuse, which meant that I would have to buy a new power supply. So I went down to Dick Smith Electronics at Carnegie and bought a 420W PSU which would supply all my power needs. Since my computer was apart I decided to clean all the dust out with a couple of cans of pressurized air, so I went back to DSE and bought two cans for $16. I then preceded to spend all of Saturday afternoon removing the fan off my processer, graphics card and I of course pulled out all the RAM etc.

So after deciding that everything was indeed clean enough, I began to assemble everything again which took me about 30 minutes, I then preceded to install my new dual fan power supply. I switched my computer on and everything was working for about 15 min and then all of a sudden this strange noise starting coming from the computer, so I shut it down and pulled the cover off and discovered that there was nothing wrong with it that I could SEE, so I pulled some cables out and plugged them back in. I then put the cover back on and powered up, this time an error message came up on the screen telling me that I need to insert a boot disk, which surely meant that I was having a hard drive problem. So I pulled the cover off again and found that the IDE cable leading to the Hard Drive was loose, so I put it back in correctly, I then decided to boot up with the cover of the PC off so that I could see inside while it was booting. So after powering up again the suspicous noise was still coming from the PC, so I spent a good 30min trying to discover what was wrong before I realised that I had forgotten to screw the fan back onto the graphics card after I had cleaned it, so when I put the computer back (vertically) the fan had fallen down beside the graphics card and was hitting my LAN card. So after two trips to DSE, $116 (for the cans of air and power supply) and 3 hours I successfully got my computer running again.

My renewed Victoria Racing Club membership has arrived (VRC are the people that run the Melbourne Cup etc.) which means I will be going to a fair few race meetings this spring. Anyway next year I will be eligible to be a Full Financial Member which promises to be good. Anyway today was House & Middleschool Cross country and as usual I ended up taking photos, anyway I got some good action shots of people walking in the fun run.

Also I've been trying to convince Mr. Lawson to give me the day off on Saturday to save me having to go to Edithvale Velodrome to take photos of Girl's Triathlon (It would have to be the most exciting sport Haileybury offers), anyway he said he would think about it.

The Tattoo is over, after an incredibly boring closing night, however Panther's comments over the headsets proved to be highly entertaining. Anyway today was very relaxing for me, I had lunch at Zanuba's in Toorak and then went and bought some goodies from JB Hi Fi before heading home to finish some work. The equipment for the Tattoo is being taken away, and its goodbye to Johnny, Stu and hopefully the junior campuses until next time.

We're now well into the Tattoo, with Castlefield having finished their Tattoo. We are now into Newlands, whom will have their final night tonight, it will then be onto Edrington. Anyway the Castlefield nights were pretty good, however the Newlands nights are very boring, however hopefully Edrington will be better. Anyway Luke is sitting here annoying me with some network cable while im attempting to do some IT work which I needs to catch up on because I've missed so much damn class. Well its finally Friday night and I deliberately didn't plan anything so that I can finally relax. Anyway my weekend will be short lived, tomorrow I have to go to work to pick up some paperwork and then head back to school for 9:00am where I will spend a couple of hours taking photos. After photos I will of course head to the Aikman hall to help out there as quite a lot needs to be done tomorrow to be ready for Castlefields full dress rehearsal on Sunday (Don't ask me why Castlefield are having a rehearsal on a Sunday) so I will virtually have no time to do anything except eat, sleep and of course "Tattoo" for the next week and a half.

The Tattoo looms ever closer and things are beginning to fall into place. Edrington rehearsed in the Aikman hall today, meaning that only Castlefield are left before the full dress rehearsals begin. We finally have some cameras in the hall to film everything, we will be using the Drama, Library and IT cameras, as well as one we borrowed off Newlands giving us four cameras which Panther seems happy about.

Tattoo commitments will take up most of my day tomorrow, and all of my weekend and of course all of next week, so hopefully I will be able to get some school work done on the way to and from school however this is unlikely. Senior School is eerily quiet with the buildings themselves preparing for the onslaught of Tattoo madness. I was rather busy today with Tattoo related things to sort out, I was down at Newlands three times today which is a good indicator as to how painful the other campuses are likely to be. The live feed equipment is working, and although it is not 'state of the art' equipment they are reliable and fairly easy to use. Mr. Bell has finally decided on camera positions, he wants no more than three cameras, while Mr. Panther wants as many as he can get, so hopefully it can be all sorted out on Saturday or even Sunday at the latest.

only 7 days until the tattoo

As the heading already suggests, we are on our final approach to the Tattoo, in which over three thousand students will perform over six huge nights. Today was the first rehearsal for Newlands which went alright, all though some pretty dubious decision making caused hundreds of students to have to walk to and from Newlands in the rain for a ten minute lunch break. Luckily the whole plan for filming the tattoo seems to be coming together, with Mr. Bell being his usual stressful self scoffing at every idea that was thrown his way, however a compromise was worked out which means we will possibly be hiring two vision mixers and a couple of good cameras which will hopefully record the tattoo in impecable detail, however Luke mentioned that we have some old vision mixers so we'll see if they can be used.

Hopefully tomorrow proves to be a slightly less stressful day with there being no scheduled rehearsals, and thank god Newlands' rehearsal on Wednesday was cancelled, which leaves me two Tattoo free days in which I can catch up on school work.

And finally, Cross Country went of without a hitch and I managed to score some pretty good photos which Lawson was happy about, now we only have athletics, triathlon and middleschool touch to photograph and the magazine is virtually complete on the sporting front.

One final note, if you have the opportunity you should definitely see the Tattoo with there being over 40 moving lights and countless other techno goodies to wet your appetite, now only if they put some good acts on stage then the Tattoo would be the best show ever conceived to man, but you can't win them all. Well I finally have a presence on the web, and after spending an hour trying to think of a good name for my blog (its not as easy as one might think). I finally ended up deciding on xD, with my memory card for my camera being the inspiration. I really don't have much to say as today was fairly boring, just never ending Tattoo and Editorial commitments which by the will take up my entire Saturday, anyway I'm off to Braeside park tomorrow to get some 'happy snaps' of cross-country
